Spectacular Porthleven Is A Great Base For Your Holiday In West Cornwall. Porthleven is situated in the centre of Mounts Bay. Porthleven was originally a small settlement of fishermen but during the 1700's farmworkers and miners came to live here, many of whom worked in the silver & lead mines in Penrose Estate near Loe Bar. The historic harbour was constructed between 1811 and 1855 and housed a large fishing fleet and cargo ships. Boatbuilding, net and rope making, fish smoking and packing were undertaken in Porthleven. Porthleven has a beach, fantastic scenery, and lots of facilities. There are traditional inns, cafes, restaurants, fish and chip shops, pasty shops and a range of other shops including galleries, craft workshops, supermarket, Post Office and chemists. Excellent coast path walks lead to Loe Bar, Loe Pool and the Penrose Estate, which are areas of natural beauty, much of which is owned by the National Trust. Porthleven is also an excellent base from which to explore Lands End and the Lizard Peninsula. There are many fantastic day trips easily accessible from Porthleven.
